As a five-star hotel, The Oyster Box offers a wide array of services and facilities to ensure a memorably luxurious stay for our guests. Whether it’s an umbrella for a day at the beach, or arranging a special bed for those four-legged family members, our enthusiastic staff are always on hand to help.
The Oyster Box rests amid lush sub-tropical gardens brimming with wild figs and ancient milkwoods, where princess palms play host to wild orchids and bright hibiscus flowers offer a flash of colour above serene ponds. Selected suites and villas offer private plunge pools, with two large swimming pools open to all hotel guests. True to our commitment to energy efficiency, the swimming pools are heated using excess heat from the hotel’s air-conditioning system.
Warm textures and rich hues, handpicked furniture and objets d’art characterise the Clock Library, featuring a fascinating collection of antique clocks bought on auction or during the Tollman family’s travels to exotic places. The only room in the hotel for the private use of resident guests, it is accessed with a key card and is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet drink in a leather armchair with lighthouse views or to page through one of the many books that form part of a library of family heirlooms collected over many years.
The Oyster Box hotel offers a private 24-seater cinema, which is available to all in-house guests. A monthly schedule offers screenings five times a day (10am, 2pm, 6pm, 8pm and 10pm), but a wide selection of movies is available for guests to make their own choice.
The cinema is decorated with vintage movie posters and comes equipped with state-of-the-art Dolby Surround Sound. Look forward to plush leather seats as well as complimentary popcorn and candy as you escape into a world of celluloid fantasy.
Children between the ages of four and 12 years old, have access to the supervised Holiday Club during their stay. The playroom offers a range of games, activities and facilities, including use of the Xbox, PlayStation, DVDs and a selection of board games. Other vacation activities include story-telling, face painting, art and craft activities and movie screenings. Special programmes are offered during peak periods such as school holidays, Easter, Christmas and New Year. We also offer a babysitting service.
The Holiday Club is open daily from 10am to 7pm.
If you’d rather hike your heart rate than hang out by the pool, The Oyster Box offers a wonderful array of exercise options for active guests. The modern fitness centre in the Spa complex is open 24-hours a day and is fully equipped with treadmills, exercise bicycles, a cross-trainer, a power plate, a multi-exercise tower, weights, medicine balls, yoga/exercise mats, pilates balls, satellite TV and a refreshment station. Private yoga or pilates instructors can be arranged on request, and exercise DVDs are available through the hotel reception. The Oyster Box offers direct access to the Umhlanga promenade, a three-kilometre coastal walkways ideal for running and walking.
